Local Activities

Below is a list of the past, present and future local activities run by WPSA-NB:

2009

  • The 3rd Nigeria International Poultry Summit will be held in Abeokuta, Ogun State South West Nigeria from 22-26 February 2009. The summit theme will be: Poultry industry in West Africa: Towards millennium development goals. Participant will cut across local and international delegates, academia, industry, farmers, feed millers, students and members of the public. 2008

  • One day national poultry seminar held in Lagos on 11th March, 2008. The event was declared open by governor of Lagos State, Barrister Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). The seminar had the theme: Feed Crisis: The way Out. This topical event was attended by over three hundred participants from academia, government, feed millers, farmers, students as well as print and electronic media.

2007

  • The 2nd Nigeria International Poultry Summit held in Abeokuta, Ogun State South West Nigeria between February 19 – 22, 2007. The summit had the theme: Consolidating the poultry industry in West Africa. Participants include members from African countries, Asia, UK and USA. This event was the best ever poultry minded event organised in Sub-saharan Africa.

2005

  • 1. From February 20-25, 2005, the 1st Nigeria International Poultry Summit was held in Ota, Ogun State South West Nigeria. The summit had the theme:  emerging opportunities for poultry production in West Africa. Speakers were drawn from academia and industries. Visitors from USA, UK and Ghana graced the occasion. The President and Commander in Chief of the federal republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was among the highly placed individual who participated in the summit.

2000

  • On September 6, 2000, the first Seminar organised by the association was held in Lagos-Nigeria. The theme of the seminar was Egg Production and marketing. Speakers from all spheres of the industry presented papers to a large gathering of poultry farmers. Several questions and problems were discussed at this seminar.
  • On October 18, 2000, the Open day for secondary schools was conducted. Schools from within Ogun State, Oyo state and Lagos state (South western zone of Nigeria) were invited and exposed to various aspects of poultry production, including films and farm visits.

1999

  • August 18th, 1999 was the first open day fair for Secondary Schools in Abeokuta. Students from five neighbouring schools were invited to a one day programme where they were exposed to various aspects of poultry production including films and farm visits.
  • From December 20th to the 24th, 1999, the second poultry fair was held in Abeokuta. This provided a forum for marketers of poultry and its products to advertise and sell their products.

1998

  • In December, 1998, the maiden event of the association was the Poultry Fair. Marketeers of Poultry and its projects were gathered together in Abeokuta, Nigeria from December 22nd to December 24th, 1998 to market their products during the festive season to the public.
